FitBeat adjusts your music's tempo in real-time to match your workout intensity. Using GPS, heart rate, or pedometer data, the app calculates your optimal BPM and uses professional-grade time-stretching to speed up or slow down your music without changing the pitch. The result? Every beat matches your stride perfectly.
There are several ways to add music to FitBeat:
1. Import from Files: Go to Library tab → tap "+" → select "Import Music" → choose files from your device.
2. Apple Music: Connect your Apple Music library in Settings to access your playlists and songs directly.
3. AirDrop: Send audio files from your Mac or another device via AirDrop and open them in FitBeat.
Supported formats: MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV, AIFF, and FLAC.
Go to Settings → Apple Music → Connect. FitBeat will request access to your music library. Once connected, you'll see your Apple Music playlists in the Library tab.
Important: Music you own (purchased from iTunes or uploaded to iCloud Music Library) supports full tempo adjustment. Streamed Apple Music catalog tracks play at their original tempo due to DRM restrictions.
Manual Mode (Free): Set your own target BPM. Great for treadmills, stationary bikes, or when you want precise control.
Running Speed Mode (Pro): Uses GPS to track your pace and converts it to cadence based on your height. Best for outdoor running on roads or trails.
Heart Rate Mode (Pro): Syncs tempo to your heart rate from Apple Watch. Perfect for cardio where intensity varies—HIIT, cycling, elliptical.
Smart Auto Mode (Pro): Combines GPS + pedometer for the most accurate cadence detection. Works indoors and outdoors. Our recommended mode for runners.
Check these common causes:
1. BPM Mode: Make sure you've selected a mode other than Manual (unless you want manual control).
2. Location Services: For Running Speed or Smart Auto modes, go to Settings → Privacy → Location Services → FitBeat → set to "While Using."
3. Heart Rate: For Heart Rate mode, ensure your Apple Watch is connected and HealthKit permissions are granted.
4. Music Source: Streamed Apple Music tracks don't support tempo adjustment—only owned music does.
5. Start a Workout: Tempo adjustment only activates during an active workout session.
Yes! Use either:
Manual Mode: Set your target BPM based on the treadmill speed (e.g., 170 BPM for a tempo run).
Smart Auto Mode: Keep your iPhone in your pocket or armband. The pedometer will detect your steps and match the music tempo to your actual cadence—even without GPS.
FitBeat supports BPM from 60 to 200, covering everything from slow recovery walks to fast sprints. Typical ranges:
• Walking: 100-120 BPM
• Easy run: 150-160 BPM
• Tempo run: 170-180 BPM
• Fast/sprint: 180-200 BPM
The FitBeat Watch app installs automatically when you download FitBeat on your iPhone. To verify:
1. Open the Watch app on your iPhone
2. Scroll to "Available Apps"
3. Find FitBeat and tap "Install"
Make sure both devices are paired and Bluetooth is enabled. The Watch app syncs automatically when you start a workout on your iPhone.
No! Apple Watch is completely optional. FitBeat works perfectly with just your iPhone using GPS and pedometer data.
However, with Apple Watch you get: real-time heart rate for Heart Rate Mode, convenient playback controls on your wrist, and the ability to view BPM and workout progress without pulling out your phone.
Try these steps:
1. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on both devices
2. Open FitBeat on your iPhone first, then on your Watch
3. Check that the Watch app is installed (Watch app → My Watch → FitBeat)
4. Restart both your iPhone and Apple Watch
5. If issues persist, unpair and re-pair your Apple Watch
Go to the Workout tab → tap "+" → "Create Workout". You can add multiple intervals with:
• Custom duration (time or distance)
• Target BPM for each interval
• Warm-up and cool-down periods
• Voice announcements when intervals change
FitBeat will automatically adjust the music tempo for each interval. Perfect for HIIT, tempo runs, or Fartlek training.
Yes! During workouts, FitBeat tracks:
• Duration and distance
• Average and current pace
• Calories burned
• Average cadence (steps/min)
• Heart rate (with Apple Watch)
All workouts sync automatically to Apple Health, contributing to your Activity rings and fitness history.
Absolutely! When creating or editing a workout, tap "Music Source" to choose:

2. Restart your iPhone: Hold the power button and slide to power off, then turn back on.
3. Update the app: Check the App Store for updates.
4. Reinstall: Delete and reinstall FitBeat (your music library will need to be re-imported, but workouts sync via iCloud).
If crashes continue, contact support@fitbeat.music with details about when the crash occurs.
Check these settings:
1. Location permissions: Settings → Privacy → Location Services → FitBeat → "While Using the App"
2. Precise Location: Make sure "Precise Location" toggle is ON
3. Signal: GPS works best outdoors with clear sky view. Tall buildings, tunnels, and dense trees can reduce accuracy.
4. Use Smart Auto Mode: It combines GPS with pedometer data for more reliable tracking in challenging conditions.
FitBeat should continue playing when your phone is locked. If it stops:
1. Check that you're in an active workout (music only plays during workouts)
2. Verify Background App Refresh is enabled: Settings → General → Background App Refresh → FitBeat (ON)
3. Check Low Power Mode isn't restricting background activity
4. Make sure FitBeat has microphone permission (needed for audio engine): Settings → FitBeat → Microphone (ON)

FitBeat uses GPS and audio playback, which do consume battery. For a typical 1-hour workout, expect 10-15% battery usage—similar to other GPS running apps.
Tips to extend battery life:
• Start your workout with a full charge
• Disable Wi-Fi during outdoor runs
• Use Smart Auto Mode (it can reduce GPS polling)
• Lower screen brightness or use auto-lock
